Share Your Light

Gospel Mt 5:13-16

Jesus said to his disciples:
“You are the salt of the earth.
But if salt loses its taste, with what can it be seasoned?
It is no longer good for anything
but to be thrown out and trampled underfoot.
You are the light of the world.
A city set on a mountain cannot be hidden.
Nor do they light a lamp and then put it under a bushel basket;
it is set on a lampstand,
where it gives light to all in the house.
Just so, your light must shine before others,
that they may see your good deeds
and glorify your heavenly Father.”

Today's homily by Father Adam was very poignant. On his evening walk last night he shared that he saw some blinking lights deep in the woods. He discovered they were lightening bugs. Those random flickers of light reminded him that we don't always have to be the spotlight, shining ever so bright. Being the light can mean being a flicker of hope. A smile, a kind gesture during our day. That smile you give away may be the only smile that person receives all day.  The small shimmer that can brighten anothers day, even if in a small way. They all add up at the end of the day! So don't worry if you don't feel you can be that lampstand. Be a lightening bug, share your light!
